Living, Once-Living, Never-Living Sort

Overview:

A sorting activity where students cut and paste pictures under the headings ‘living,’ ‘once-living,’ and ‘never-living.’ Designed for middle years students.

How the Activity Works:

Students are given a set of pictures, which they will cut out and sort into the appropriate columns: 'living,' 'once-living,' and 'never-living.' For example, a baby would be placed under 'living,' an apple under 'once-living,' and a clock under 'never-living.' The activity helps students distinguish between the characteristics of living things, things that were once living, and things that have never been alive.
