Living or Non-Living Checklist (1)
Overview:
A checklist activity where students classify pre-selected objects as living or non-living based on specific criteria. Designed for middle years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Reinforce understanding of the characteristics that distinguish living things from non-living things.
- Use critical thinking skills to classify objects using a guided checklist.
- Apply knowledge of living and non-living characteristics to real-life examples.
How the Activity Works:
Students are provided with a checklist that includes pre-selected objects (e.g., caterpillar, motorbike, hot air balloon, etc.). For each object, they answer questions such as "Can it move by itself?", "Does it breathe air?", and "Does it need food and water?" by ticking or crossing the boxes. Once all questions are answered, students classify each object as living or non-living based on the results of their checklist. This activity helps reinforce their understanding of the concepts of living and non-living, encouraging careful observation and application of knowledge.
