Identifying Evaluative Language
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
An activity where students identify and underline the evaluative language in each sentence, and circle the noun being judged. Designed for middle years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognise and identify evaluative language in sentences.
- Understand how evaluative words are used to express judgment about a noun.
- Strengthen comprehension and language analysis skills.
How the Activity Works:
Students are given a set of sentences, each containing evaluative language. They are tasked with underlining the evaluative word(s) in each sentence and circling the noun that is being judged. For example, in the sentence "The movie was absolutely thrilling," students would underline "thrilling" and circle "movie." This activity helps students practice identifying evaluative language and understanding its role in expressing opinions or judgments.
