Mapping the Voyage: Trace

Overview:

This mapping activity allows students to trace the route of the First Fleet and label the key stops along the way. Designed for middle and upper years students.

• Understand the route taken by the First Fleet from England to Australia.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with a map showing the key stops made by the First Fleet during its journey from England to Australia. They are tasked with tracing the route on the map and labeling important locations such as the departure port (Portsmouth), the stop at Tenerife, the stay at Rio de Janeiro, and the final arrival at Botany Bay. This activity helps students visualise the long journey of the First Fleet while strengthening their understanding of geography and historical events.
