Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek & Slide: Explain
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
An activity where students explain how the five sun safety steps — slip, slop, slap, seek, and slide — can help protect people from the sun. This task encourages students to think critically about the importance of sun protection. Designed for early and middle years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the five key sun safety steps: slip, slop, slap, seek, and slide.
- Recognise how each step helps protect the skin from harmful UV rays.
- Develop communication skills by explaining safety practices in their own words.
How the Activity Works:
Students are asked to explain the meaning and importance of each sun safety step:
- Slip: Slip on protective clothing like long sleeves and pants.
- Slop: Slop on sunscreen to protect exposed skin.
- Slap: Slap on a wide-brimmed hat to shade the face and neck.
- Seek: Seek shade when possible, especially during peak sun hours.
- Slide: Slide on sunglasses to protect the eyes from UV rays.
Students can either write or draw their answers to show how each step helps keep people safe from the sun. This activity helps students internalise these safety practices and understand their role in protecting themselves and others from sun damage.
