4-Digit Non-Standard Partitioning (2)

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

Use number expanders to partition a 4-digit number in different ways. Designed for students in years 3 and 4.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an understanding of place value in 4-digit numbers.
  • Practise partitioning numbers in multiple ways.
  • Strengthen number sense through flexible thinking about numerical representations.

How the Activity Works:

Students read a given 4-digit number at the top of the worksheet and complete the number expanders by filling in the different ways the number can be partitioned. Each number expander is structured to guide students in breaking down the number based on place value. This activity reinforces place value concepts and encourages deeper understanding of number composition.
