Overview:

An activity where students draw teen numbers on ten frames and write matching equations to reinforce their understanding of place value. Designed for early years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Represent teen numbers visually using ten frames.
  • Understand teen numbers as a combination of ten and another digit.
  • Write matching number sentences to represent teen numbers.

How the Activity Works:

Students are given different teen numbers to represent. For each number, they colour the ten frame to match. Students then write an equation in the form of 10 + __ (e.g., 10 + 4 for fourteen) to show the number’s composition. This activity supports number recognition and place value understanding.
