Features of a Report

Overview:
An activity where students read an information report title "Rabbits" and analyse its structure and features. Designed for early and middle years students, this task helps students understand how reports are organised and recognise key features.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the main components of an information report, including headings, topic sentences and specific types of language used.
- Understand the purpose of using present tense verbs and technical vocabulary in reports.
- Develop skills in identifying personal comments in informational texts.
How the Activity Works:
Students are given an information report to read and analyse. They follow specific instructions to identify key features of the report, such as underlining the three headings, highlighting the topic sentence in each paragraph, and finding and circling present tense verbs and technical words. They are also asked to draw a zigzag line under any personal comments found in the report. This activity helps students build a deeper understanding of the structure and language of information reports.
