Match Everyday Objects to 3D Shapes
Overview:
A cut-and-paste activity where students match real-life objects to the 3D shapes they resemble, placing them under the appropriate headings: sphere, cube, triangular prism, cone, pyramid, cylinder, and rectangular prism. Designed for early and middle years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify and recognise 3D shapes in real-life objects.
- Understand the properties of common 3D shapes, including sphere, cube, triangular prism, cone, pyramid, cylinder, and rectangular prism.
- Develop classification and fine motor skills through cutting and pasting tasks.
How the Activity Works:
Students are provided with pictures of real-life objects (e.g., a ball for sphere, a box for cube) and a set of 3D shape headings. Their task is to cut out the objects and paste them under the correct heading: sphere, cube, triangular prism, cone, pyramid, cylinder, or rectangular prism. This hands-on activity reinforces shape recognition and supports students in connecting 3D shapes with the world around them.
