Narrative Structure Jumble

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

Students organise jumbled paragraphs into the correct order, helping them consolidate their understanding of narrative structure. Designed for year 3 and 4 students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the key parts of a narrative (orientation, complication, resolution).
  • Understand the importance of narrative structure in storytelling.
  • Develop skills in organising ideas logically and coherently.

How the Activity Works:

Students are given a set of jumbled paragraphs that make up a narrative. Students must organise the paragraphs into the correct order to form a complete story, ensuring the structure follows the typical narrative pattern: orientation (introducing the characters and setting), complication (the problem or challenge) and resolution (how the problem is solved). This activity encourages students to apply their knowledge of narrative structure while developing their skills in logical sequencing and comprehension.
