Ocean Explorers: Sight Word Game

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

A classic battleships-style game that helps students practise sight words. Suitable for early-year students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise and memorise common sight words.
  • Strengthen spelling and word recognition.
  • Develop strategic thinking and turn-taking skills through gameplay.

How the Activity Works:

Students write sight words on the game board, placing one letter per square. Players take turns calling out coordinates to "hit" their opponent's sight words. When a correct coordinate is called, the player marks the hit. The first player to sink all the sight words wins. This game can be printed and laminated for durability, providing a long-lasting resource for engaging sight word practice.
