Park Map
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
A simple park map designed to support the teaching of mapping skills, location identification, and directional language. Designed for students in year 2 and year 3.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify and describe locations on a park map.
- Plan and follow routes between locations on a map.
- Enhance map-reading skills by engaging in treasure hunts and direction-following activities.
- Use directional language accurately to give and follow instructions.
How the Activity Works:
This more detailed city map can be used in a variety of ways to explore map skills. Students can practise identifying locations and use directions to describe where things are. For example, they might use the map to:
- Describe the location of different places on the map (e.g., "The parking is near the dog park").
- Plan a route from one location to another by giving and following directions (e.g., "Start at the parking, go towards the playground and then over the bridge").
- Complete a treasure hunt by following written clues based on directional language.
- Use the map for a "Where am I?" activity, where students describe the location of different landmarks and guess where they are based on directional clues.
