Persuasive Devices Match Up (With Definitions)

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

A cut-and-paste activity where students match persuasive technique examples to their corresponding devices, with definitions provided for support. Designed for middle and upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and understand different persuasive devices.
  • Use definitions to accurately match examples to persuasive techniques.
  • Develop critical thinking skills by analysing persuasive language.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with a set of persuasive technique examples and a list of devices, including repetition, use of evidence, adjectives and adverbs, alliteration, modality, emotive language, rhetorical questions, and involving the reader. Each technique is accompanied by a definition to scaffold learning. Students cut out the examples and match them to the correct persuasive device. This structured approach helps reinforce students’ understanding of persuasive techniques and how they are applied in writing.
