EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

Students use a variety of persuasive language devices. Designed for middle and upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and understand 10 common persuasive language devices.
  • Choose the appropriate persuasive device to write convincing sentences.
  • Practise using a range of persuasive devices to influence an audience.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with a list of various persuasive language devices such as rhetorical questions, emotive language, alliteration, and exaggeration. Students practise using these devices by writing persuasive sentences for different topics. For example, for the topic "Go on a holiday," students might write:

Rhetorical Question: "Why stay home when you could explore the world?"

Emotive Language: "Imagine the excitement of discovering new places and making unforgettable memories."

Exaggeration: "A holiday this incredible is something you'll never experience again!"

This activity encourages students to practise and combine multiple persuasive techniques to create more compelling and engaging arguments.
