What is a Force? Reading Sheet
Overview:
A reading sheet about forces, covering contact and non-contact forces, how forces occur when two objects interact, and the concepts of push and pull. Designed for middle and upper years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the difference between contact and non-contact forces.
- Learn how forces occur when two objects interact.
- Recognise and describe the concepts of push and pull as basic forces.
How the Activity Works:
Students read through a passage explaining the concept of force. The text describes contact forces, such as friction and tension, which occur when objects physically touch, as well as non-contact forces like gravity and magnetism, which act at a distance. The reading explains that forces are created when two objects interact, either by pushing or pulling on each other. Students will learn how these forces impact the motion of objects and how they can be observed in everyday life. This reading sheet introduces foundational force concepts and encourages students to think about examples of each type of force.
