Sizzling Starts Cut & Paste

EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
Students identify and match different types of sizzling starts to their corresponding techniques. Designed for students in year 4 and year 5.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognise and identify different types of sizzling starts in stories.
- Understand how a sizzling start can hook the reader and set the tone for the narrative.
- Develop skills in using different techniques to craft engaging story openings.
How the Activity Works:
Students are presented with six examples of sizzling starts, each using a different technique. These include starting with action, dialogue, a question, curiosity, humour, and onomatopoeia. Students match each example to the correct technique. For example, if a start begins with a loud noise or sound, they would match it to onomatopoeia. This activity encourages students to think critically about how various techniques can be used to create engaging openings for stories and practise using them in their own writing.
