‘Children & Sport’ Persuasive Text
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
Students read a persuasive text arguing that children must play sport and identify the persuasive techniques used. Designed for year 3 and 4 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognise and identify persuasive techniques in a written text.
- Understand how language features such as emotive language, rhetorical questions, and repetition influence the reader.
- Develop critical thinking skills by analysing how persuasive devices strengthen an argument.
How the Activity Works:
Students read a persuasive text about the importance of children playing sport. As they read, they highlight and label persuasive techniques such as emotive language, rhetorical questions, repetition, and high modality words. They then explain how each technique is used to convince the reader. This activity encourages students to think critically about persuasive writing and how it is used in real-world arguments.
