Living, Once-Living, Never-Living Sort

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

A sorting activity where students cut and paste pictures under the headings ‘living,’ ‘once-living,’ and ‘never-living.’ Designed for middle years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and categorise items into the correct groups: living, once-living, and never-living.
  • Understand the differences between living, once-living, and non-living things.
  • Develop sorting and classification skills through hands-on learning.

How the Activity Works:

Students are given a set of pictures, which they will cut out and sort into the appropriate columns: 'living,' 'once-living,' and 'never-living.' For example, a baby would be placed under 'living,' an apple under 'once-living,' and a clock under 'never-living.' The activity helps students distinguish between the characteristics of living things, things that were once living, and things that have never been alive.
