Weathering, Erosion or Deposition?

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

A cut and paste activity where students arrange examples under the correct headings: ‘weathering,’ ‘erosion,’ or ‘deposition.’ Designed for middle and upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the processes of weathering, erosion, and deposition.
  • Distinguish between weathering, erosion, and deposition based on examples.
  • Learn how these processes shape the Earth's surface.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with a set of examples, such as the breaking down of rocks, the movement of soil by wind or water, and the formation of sand dunes. They are asked to cut out each example and place it under the correct heading: ‘weathering,’ ‘erosion,’ or ‘deposition.’ This activity helps students differentiate between the three geological processes and understand how they contribute to landscape formation. By categorising the examples, students will reinforce their knowledge of these fundamental earth processes and how they work together to shape the environment.
