Show, Don’t Tell Feelings

EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
A worksheet designed to help students practise the ‘show, don’t tell’ technique by transforming emotions into vivid descriptions. Designed for middle and upper years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify physical reactions associated with different emotions.
- Use descriptive language to convey emotions without directly naming them.
- Strengthen narrative writing skills by engaging readers through sensory details.
How the Activity Works:
Students are given sentences that state an emotion, such as "He was feeling scared." They list physical reactions that might accompany the emotion, such as sweating or a racing heart. Then, they rewrite the sentence to ‘show’ the feeling through descriptive writing. This activity helps students enhance their storytelling skills and create more immersive narratives.
