Narrative Features Definition Match
Overview:
Students match each narrative element and language feature to its correct definition, helping them understand the key components of a narrative. Designed for year 4 and year 5 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify key narrative elements such as orientation, characters, and resolution.
- Understand language features like adjectives, adverbs, and dialogue that contribute to storytelling.
- Develop the ability to recognise narrative features and how they shape the story.
How the Activity Works:
Students are given a set of narrative elements and language features, including orientation, characters, resolution, setting, dialogue, complication, adjectives and adverbs and building tension. They match each element or feature with its corresponding definition, reinforcing their understanding of how these components are used in storytelling. For example, students match "setting" with its definition as the time and place where the story takes place. This activity helps students grasp the structure and language that make up a compelling narrative.
