Overview:

A cut-and-paste activity where students complete a set of food chains by matching animals and plants, demonstrating the flow of energy in different ecosystems. Designed for upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the concept of food chains and how energy moves through an ecosystem.
  • Identify the roles of producers, consumers, and predators in various biomes.
  • Develop fine motor skills and organisational skills through a cut-and-paste activity.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with a set of incomplete food chains, each containing missing animals or plants. They are tasked with cutting out the images of various producers, consumers, and predators (e.g., plants, insects, birds) and matching them to the correct positions in each food chain. Students complete the food chains by arranging the animals and plants in the correct order to show how energy flows in different ecosystems. This activity helps students reinforce their understanding of food chains and the interdependence of organisms within ecosystems.
