Overview:

A blank table for students to use to categorise items into three groups: living, non-living, and once living. Suitable for middle years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Classify things into the categories of living, non-living, and once-living.
  • Develop critical thinking and observation skills to determine whether something is living, once-living, or non-living.
  • Reinforce understanding of life processes and characteristics.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with a blank table with three columns: ‘Living,’ ‘Non-Living,’ and ‘Once Living.’ They fill in the table by classifying various items or examples into the appropriate category based on their characteristics. For instance, they can place a plant in the 'Living' column, a rock in the 'Non-Living' column, and a tree branch in the 'Once Living' column. This task encourages students to think about the life cycle and what makes something living or once-living.
