Force Pairs Reading Sheet
Overview:
A reading sheet about force pairs, covering topics like Newton's third law of motion, gravity, and balanced vs. unbalanced forces. Students will also draw and label examples of each type of force pair. Designed for middle and upper years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand Newton's third law of motion and how it relates to force pairs.
- Differentiate between balanced and unbalanced force pairs.
- Develop the ability to apply concepts of force pairs through drawing and labelling.
How the Activity Works:
Students read through a passage explaining the concept of force pairs, including Newton's third law of motion (for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction). The reading also covers how gravity affects objects and the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces. After reading, students are asked to draw and label examples of both balanced and unbalanced force pairs. They might draw examples such as a book resting on a table (balanced forces) and a car accelerating forward (unbalanced forces). This activity reinforces the understanding of force pairs by engaging students in both reading comprehension and hands-on application through drawing.
