Reading a Key: Park Map
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
This activity uses a simple park map along with a key to help students practice identifying features and interpreting map symbols. Designed for students in year 2.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify and use map symbols and keys.
- Answer simple questions based on a map.
- Develop basic map-reading skills and spatial awareness.
How the Activity Works:
Students are given a map of Green Park along with a key that explains the symbols for various park features, such as playgrounds, dog parks, and picnic areas. They will answer questions like:
- "How many playgrounds are there?"
- "A Picnic Area is missing from the map. Draw it in a good spot."
- "Circle the playground near the dog park."
By using the key and map, students will practise finding and interpreting the features on the map, helping them develop foundational skills in reading maps and understanding spatial relationships.
