Making Connections: Hanging On

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

Students practise the reading strategy of ‘making connections’ by linking the text to their own experiences, other texts, and the world around them. Designed for students in years 5 and 6.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand and apply the 'making connections' reading strategy.
  • Develop comprehension skills by relating text to personal experiences, other readings, and real-world knowledge.
  • Strengthen critical thinking and reflection through connection-making activities.

How the Activity Works:

Students read a passage about friendship and moving on. They are then guided to write connections in three categories: text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world. Prompts help students think about how the text relates to familiar stories, their own lives, or broader concepts and events. This engaging worksheet supports comprehension and analytical thinking skills.
