Overview:

A cut-and-paste activity that requires students to match the names and descriptions of rainforest layers to their corresponding sections in a rainforest diagram. Designed for middle and upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and name the four main layers of the rainforest.
  • Understand the unique characteristics and functions of each layer.
  • Develop spatial reasoning skills by aligning labels and descriptions with the correct parts of the diagram.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with a diagram of a rainforest showing the four main layers: emergent, canopy, understory, and forest floor. They cut out labels for the layer names and matching descriptions, then paste them in the correct places on the diagram. The descriptions include key details, such as which layer receives the most sunlight, where the majority of animals live, and what types of plants grow on the forest floor. This interactive activity helps students visualise and better understand the structure of rainforests.
