How Are You Safe in the Sun?
Overview:
An activity where students draw a picture of themselves practicing sun safety and then write about how they are staying safe in the sun. This encourages students to think about and reinforce the sun safety steps they can take to protect themselves. Designed for early and middle years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the key practices for staying safe in the sun.
- Express how to be sun safe through both drawing and writing.
- Reinforce the importance of sun protection in a creative and personal way.
How the Activity Works:
Students begin by drawing a picture of themselves practicing sun safety. They may include actions like wearing a hat, applying sunscreen, seeking shade, or wearing sunglasses. Once they've finished their drawings, students write a short description explaining how they are being sun safe. For example, "I am wearing a hat to protect my face from the sun" or "I am sitting in the shade to stay cool and safe." This activity helps students personalise sun safety practices and develop a better understanding of the importance of protecting their skin and eyes from the sun's harmful rays.
