Water Hazard Actions

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

This worksheet helps students identify appropriate actions to take in response to various water hazards, such as sharp rocks, shallow water, rips, and strong waves. Students choose actions that would help keep them safe in these situations. Designed for middle and upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise common water hazards and understand the risks they pose.
  • Identify safe actions to take in response to different water hazards.
  • Develop decision-making and critical thinking skills in safety situations.

How the Activity Works:

Students are presented with a list of water hazards (e.g., sharp rocks, shallow water, rips, strong waves). For each hazard, they select the actions that would help them stay safe (e.g., walking carefully to avoid sharp rocks, checking depth before swimming, swimming parallel to the shore to escape a rip). This activity encourages students to apply their knowledge of water safety to real-life situations and reinforces the importance of making safe choices when around water.
