Water Hazards
Overview:
This worksheet helps students identify the potential hazards of different swimming spots—pool, beach, and pond/lake—and understand how to stay safe in each environment.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify specific hazards in different swimming environments (pool, beach, pond/lake).
- Understand the safety measures required for each location.
- Develop critical thinking skills by considering how to stay safe in each environment.
How the Activity Works:
Students are provided with three sections for pool, beach, and pond/lake. They identify the potential hazards for each location (e.g., slippery surfaces at the pool, strong currents at the beach, wildlife at the pond/lake). They can either write or draw their answers. Students then answer the question, "What can you do to stay safe?" for each location, providing safety measures such as swimming with a buddy, wearing sunscreen, or avoiding swimming near wildlife. This activity encourages students to think about safety in various aquatic settings and apply that knowledge to stay safe.
