EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

This worksheet helps students identify and explain potential hazards in and around lakes and ponds, as well as understand the importance of safety in these natural environments. It also encourages them to design a safety sign. Designed for middle and upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify common hazards around lakes and ponds and explain their risks.
  • Understand and practise safety rules specific to lakes and ponds.
  • Use creativity to design a sign that promotes safety in natural water environments.

How the Activity Works:

Students first fill in a table, identifying potential hazards around lakes and ponds, such as strong currents, slippery rocks, and wildlife. They then explain how these hazards can be avoided or managed. After completing the table, students design a safety sign, including rules like "Stay within designated swimming areas" or "Watch for wildlife." This activity encourages students to think critically about safety in natural water settings while fostering creativity and reinforcing important life skills.
