Overview:
A sorting activity where students determine whether a given statement is an example of hyperbole or not. Designed for middle years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand what hyperbole is and how it is used for emphasis or exaggeration.
- Identify statements that use hyperbole to convey a strong or exaggerated point.
- Differentiate between hyperbole and straightforward statements.
How the Activity Works:
Students are given a set of sentences and must read each one carefully to decide whether it is an example of hyperbole or not. They then cut and paste the sentences into the correct categories: one for hyperbole and the other for non-hyperbole statements. This activity helps students grasp the concept of hyperbole by distinguishing between exaggerated and factual language, fostering a deeper understanding of figurative language.
Note:
Hyperbole is language that exaggerates in an obvious way. It can be used to add impact to an argument.
