Free Printable Digraph Worksheets to Target Phonics

Digraphs are different to blends. A digraph consists of two letters that combine to create a single sound, unlike blends where each letter retains its own sound. For example, ‘sh’ is a digraph because it produces a unique sound that isn’t just ‘s’ or ‘h’. Our collection of free printable digraph worksheets will give your children opportunities to practise identifying, reading, and writing words containing common digraphs.
Common digraphs include:
- ‘sh’ as in ship
- ‘ch’ as in chair
- ‘th’ (hard, as in that, and soft, as in thumb)
- ‘wh’ as in whistle
- ‘ng’ as in ring
Our Blends and Digraphs Cards are perfect for hands-on activities when introducing or revisiting key digraphs. The explicit teaching of digraphs is an important part of phonics instruction, as recognising these letter combinations helps students decode words more effectively.
