Persuasive Writing Prompt Cards (Middle, Upper)

Overview:

A set of 20 persuasive writing prompt cards designed to inspire students to develop and justify their opinions on a range of topics. Designed for middle and upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

• Generate ideas and arguments for persuasive writing.
• Develop structured responses using persuasive techniques.
• Practise justifying opinions with strong reasoning and evidence.

How the Activity Works:

Each card presents a persuasive writing prompt, such as "Students should get to choose their teachers." Students consider whether they agree or disagree and think of three to four strong reasons to support their opinion. They are encouraged to use persuasive devices, such as rhetorical questions, emotive language, and evidence, to make their arguments more compelling. These prompt cards can be used for independent writing, group discussions, or classroom debates.
