Adding Emotive Language

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

This worksheet helps students practise using emotive language to make their sentences more engaging and persuasive. Designed for year 5 and 6 students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Add emotive language to sentences to make them more impactful.
  • Use descriptive words that evoke specific emotions in the reader.
  • Create sentences that capture attention through language choices.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with basic sentences and asked to rewrite them, incorporating emotive language to enhance the emotional appeal. For example, the sentence "Scientists have discovered a way to regrow hair" could be rewritten as "Incredible breakthrough: Scientists have made a life-changing discovery that could restore hair to millions." After this, students are encouraged to create their own sentences using emotive language. This activity allows students to practise writing persuasive and emotionally charged statements, helping them understand how language can be used to influence an audience.
