Narrative Features Examples Match
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
Students match narrative elements and language features to the relevant excerpts from a narrative. Designed for students in year 4 and year 5.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognise narrative elements and language features within the context of a story.
- Understand how specific language features contribute to narrative structure.
- Analyse narrative excerpts to identify how different elements are used in storytelling.
How the Activity Works:
Students match up excerpts from a narrative about a go-kart race to a variety of narrative features and language features (e.g., setting, dialogue, building tension). For example, an excerpt with descriptive language about the race location could be matched with "setting," while a part with characters speaking could be matched with "dialogue." This activity encourages students to analyse how narrative features are used in practice and supports their understanding of storytelling techniques.
