Overview:

Students learn about six types of sizzling starts that capture a reader’s attention immediately. Designed for middle and upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

• Recognise and understand six different techniques for creating sizzling starts in narratives.
• Identify examples of each technique and how they help engage the reader from the beginning.

How the Resource Works:

Students read through descriptions of six sizzling start techniques and examples for each. Techniques include start at the action, dialogue, start with a question, curiosity, use humour, and onomatopoeia. This activity helps students understand how to start their own stories in a way that hooks the reader instantly, setting the tone for the rest of the narrative.
