Figurative Language Board Game
Overview:
This board game helps students reinforce their understanding of figurative language, including personification, similes, metaphors, hyperbole, onomatopoeia and alliteration. Designed for middle and upper years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognise and interpret different types of figurative language.
- Develop critical thinking and comprehension skills through game play.
- Use figurative language correctly in context.
How the Activity Works:
Players take turns drawing cards, each containing an example of figurative language. They read the example and identify the type of figurative language used. After identifying the figurative language, players place their marker on the corresponding circle on the board. If they land on a space occupied by another player, they can bump them off. The aim is to advance along the board while reinforcing figurative language knowledge, making this an interactive and fun way to improve language skills. The game includes examples of personification, similes, metaphors, hyperbole, onomatopoeia and alliteration.
