Overview:

This is a fun "Go Fish"-style card game designed to help students learn and recognise homonyms, homophones, and homographs. Players match pairs of cards that form homonym pairs, such as "blue" and "blew." The game is a great way to reinforce vocabulary and spelling skills while also boosting knowledge of word meanings.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and match homonyms, homophones and homographs.
  • Understand the different meanings of words that sound the same or are spelled the same but have different meanings.
  • Develop social interaction and listening skills through game play.

How the Activity Works:

Players take turns asking each other for a card to complete a pair of homonyms (e.g., "Do you have 'blue'?"). If the opponent has the requested card, they must give it to the asking player; if not, the asking player must draw a card from the pile. The goal is to collect as many pairs of homonyms as possible. The player with the most pairs at the end of the game wins. Laminate the cards for long-lasting use.
