Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek & Slide: Match

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

A cut-and-paste activity where students match pictures to sentences about the five sun safety steps — slip, slop, slap, seek, and slide. This activity helps reinforce the importance of sun protection in a fun and interactive way. Designed for early years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise the five key sun safety steps and their associated actions.
  • Understand the importance of each step in protecting the skin from the sun.
  • Develop fine motor skills through cutting and pasting.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with a set of pictures representing each sun safety step (e.g., a person wearing a wide-brimmed hat, applying sunscreen, seeking shade, wearing sunglasses, and wearing protective clothing). They cut out the pictures and paste them next to the corresponding sentences that describe each sun safety action:

  • Slip: Slip on protective clothing like long sleeves and pants.
  • Slop: Slop on sunscreen to protect exposed skin.
  • Slap: Slap on a wide-brimmed hat to shade the face and neck.
  • Seek: Seek shade when possible, especially during peak sun hours.
  • Slide: Slide on sunglasses to protect the eyes from UV rays.

This activity helps students connect the visual representation of each safety step to its meaning, reinforcing the concept of sun safety in a hands-on way.
