Task Cards: Translation, Rotation, Reflection

Overview:
This set of 24 task cards helps students identify and classify geometric transformations—translation, rotation, and reflection—by examining images. Students circle ‘translation’, ‘rotation’, or ‘reflection’ to match each transformation. This resource supports upper years students in deepening their understanding of spatial reasoning and transformations in geometry.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify and differentiate between translation, rotation, and reflection transformations.
- Apply knowledge of geometric transformations to various figures and real-life contexts.
- Strengthen critical thinking and visualisation skills in geometry.
How the Activity Works:
Each task card features an image of a shape or object undergoing a transformation. Students observe the image carefully and circle the correct transformation: ‘translation’, ‘rotation’, or ‘reflection’. After completing the cards, students can also describe each transformation in more detail or create their own examples. Laminate the cards for extended use in the classroom or for individual practice.
