Jellybeans & Probability (Yr5,6)

EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
A probability activity where students colour jellybeans to match given probability statements. Designed for year 5 and 6 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand and apply probability terms such as likely, unlikely, certain, and impossible.
- Interpret probability statements and create visual representations.
- Develop reasoning skills by matching jellybeans colours to probability scenarios.
How the Activity Works:
Students are presented with collections of jellybeans and sets of probability statements, such as "Picking out a striped or blue jellybean is impossible" or "Picking out a yellow jellybean is likely." Students colour the jellybeans to make each statement true, adjusting the number and distribution of each colour to match the likelihood described. This activity provides a practical and engaging way for students to visualise and practise probability concepts through creative problem-solving.
