Building Houses with 1-digit Numbers
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
This hands-on activity helps students practise understanding and representing 1-digit numbers using different place value representations. Designed for early years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify and match place value representations of 1-digit numbers (e.g., dice, cubes, ten frames).
- Develop understanding of place value and how it relates to three-digit numbers.
- Enhance fine motor skills through cutting, pasting, and organising tiles.
How the Activity Works:
Students are given place value tiles representing dice, cubes, and ten frames. They will match each representation to ‘build’ three houses, with bricks and windows as guides for placement. Students cut out the tiles and paste them in the correct spots to complete the activity. This interactive task helps reinforce their understanding of place value while making learning fun.
