Solve the Room Chance Cards (Early)
Overview:
A probability activity designed for early years students, where they identify the likelihood of different events using the terms "won't happen," "will happen," and "might happen." This activity helps students grasp basic concepts of chance and probability by categorising events based on what is most likely to happen.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand basic probability concepts using the terms "won't happen," "will happen," and "might happen."
- Categorise events based on their likelihood.
- Develop decision-making skills by considering what is likely to happen in different scenarios.
How the Activity Works:
In this activity, the teacher will place 12 cards around the room, each with a different scenario, such as "What is the chance of flipping a coin and getting heads?" Students will move around the room, read each card, and decide whether the event is something that "won't happen," "will happen," or "might happen." They will then record their answers on the provided sheet. This engaging activity encourages students to think about everyday events and classify them based on their likelihood, making the concept of probability both fun and accessible.
