Overview

A ‘Go Fish’-style game designed to help students reinforce their understanding of contractions. Suitable for early to middle-year students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise and form contractions.
  • Strengthen understanding of common contraction pairs.
  • Improve memory and turn-taking skills through gameplay.

How the Activity Works:

Players use a deck of contraction cards to play a ‘Go Fish’ style game. Players take turns asks others for words to form contraction pairs (e.g., “Do you have I have ‘am’?”), and if they don’t have the card, they “go fish” by drawing from the deck. The goal is to collect as many matched pairs as possible. This game can be printed and laminated for durability, making it a long-lasting and engaging resource for practising contractions in a fun, interactive way.
