Probability Event Match: Certain, Likely, Unlikely, Impossible
Overview:
A cut-and-paste activity where students match events to the probability terms "Certain," "Impossible," "Likely," and "Unlikely." Designed for year 3 and 4 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand and classify events as "Certain," "Impossible," "Likely," or "Unlikely."
- Develop reasoning skills through real-world probability scenarios.
- Practise categorising events based on their likelihood.
How the Activity Works:
Students are provided with various event scenarios, such as "It will rain today," "You will fly in a spaceship tonight," and "A triangle will have 3 sides." They cut out each event and paste it into the appropriate category: "Certain" for events that will definitely happen, "Impossible" for events that cannot happen, "Likely" for events that have a good chance of happening, and "Unlikely" for events that probably won’t happen. This activity provides a practical and engaging way for students to practise recognising and classifying probability events.
