Available only to premium members
EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

An exploration activity where students investigate the properties of odd and even numbers in addition. Designed for students in years 4 and 5.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise patterns when adding odd and even numbers.
  • Explain why certain sums result in even or odd numbers.
  • Use visual models to support reasoning.

How the Activity Works:

Students complete addition problems involving odd and even numbers and observe patterns in the sums. They answer questions such as, What happens when an even number is added to another even number? and What happens when an odd number is added to an even number? To support their reasoning, students draw visual representations, such as dot groups or number lines, to explain why these patterns occur.
