Representing 5-Digit Numbers (1)

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

Represent 5-digit numbers in different ways by writing them in words, placing them on a place value chart, and completing a number expander. Designed for students in years 4, 5 and 6.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of 5-digit numbers and their place value.
  • Practise writing numbers in words and representing them using structured formats.
  • Strengthen number sense by exploring multiple representations of the same number.

How the Activity Works:

Students are given a set of 5-digit numbers and complete three tasks for each: writing the number in words, placing it correctly on a place value chart, and filling in a number expander to show different ways to partition the number. This structured approach reinforces place value concepts and helps students see the flexibility in number representation.
