EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

Students add amounts in dollars and cents to determine the total cost of purchases and check if shoppers have enough money. Designed for year 4 and 5 students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Add amounts in dollars and cents to find total costs.
  • Compare total costs with given amounts to determine affordability.
  • Develop problem-solving skills related to money transactions.

How the Activity Works:

Students use the toy shop prices to answer purchasing questions by adding the cost of multiple items and comparing the total to a given budget. For example: Terry has $53.90 and he wants to buy a drum and a boomerang. Can he afford them both? This activity reinforces addition skills and helps students develop financial literacy in real-world contexts.
