Using Probability Terms

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

An activity where students describe the probability of various events using the terms "impossible," "unlikely," "even chance," "likely," and "certain." Designed for students in year 4 and 5.

Learning Objectives:

  • Use probability terms accurately to describe the likelihood of events.
  • Develop critical thinking skills when considering the outcomes of different scenarios.
  • Practise reasoning and vocabulary skills in relation to probability.

How the Activity Works:

Students are presented with various probability scenarios, such as "What is the probability of picking out a spotted jellybean?" and "What is the probability of picking out a white jellybean?" They decide which probability term best describes each event and write it down. This activity provides a practical and engaging way for students to practise using probability terms to describe the likelihood of events.
